Worth every penny, it's a good internet and gaming computer.This is a great laptop for starters or teens.I purchased the laptop after my 9 year old laptop died. This was a great deal for the price and for what I need it for. Love the slick black color. Not a lot you can do with this other than play with it.I believe this laptop is as good as you will find for a budget laptop. It has 4GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, and excellent functionality. Some people may not be used to Windows 8 yet, like another person who reviewed it, but if you take the quick tutotial on Windows 8 online, you can easily adapt and find it's a very good computer. Overall: Good sound quality, A touch pad that works great, Perfect for Business, Big screen size, easy to set up, lightning fast!

This one is great for all the daily usage, but not powerful enough for gaming. We take advantage of it and purchased this product for our son as his first own laptop. So he could not use it to play 3D games but enough for web browsing, social networking and finishing home work. He like it. We suggest this product for any people who just need a laptop for daily usage. worth every penny

I was looking for a laptop to get me started. Just something to get around on the internet, check email, and store music and video. For the price of around 350$ this computer is amazing. I found that the harddrive is perfect for people that love music and movies like i do. The camera is a good one. Not amazing but still worth using. The laptop as not froze on me and runs at a very good speed. Takes only about 3 mins from a cold start to me being on the internet. The screen is plenty wide and a great size for music and video. The only downfall is the built in Windows 8 so i wouldn't recommend it to anyone in a gaming stand point but for everyone else youll learn how t use it and move through the interface in about a week.

This little thing is lightweight and fast! Seems to be working well, but what I didn't realize was that it does NOT have a CD drive? I have Office and Smart Draw Photo on CD and can not load them on here, so I had to order an additional external CD drive, still waiting for that to come to see if it works, since it doesn't specify Windows 8. My brother, an MCSE, was surprised that it didn't come with some version of Word on it, but it doesn't, you can either purchase Office 10 or use a trial version. All other files from my old laptop had to be brought over on a flash drive. Another issue you don't think about is the touch screen. It's quite staticy, worse than a normal screen, and if you have dogs, it becomes a dog hair magnet. The hair doesn't blow off and when you go to wipe it off, you end up scrolling to another screen. Kinda funny, but something to think about. All in all, great little computer for the price, but be sure to make provisions if anything you need is on CD, and be prepared to step up the vacuuming, lol!

I bought this for my daughter for use in school and I have to say I really like this computer. The lap top is very fast, has great memory and a hard drive with enough space for everything you need along with sky drive as long as you have an MSN account. I thought the keyboard lit up on this but my mistake and it isn't a big deal. I have no idea why there are some people out there not liking Windows 8 but I have no problems with it and just have to learn how to get around on it. What also is good about this computer is that the battery can be replaced when it goes bad which is a negative for my Toshiba convertible which is a tablet/lap top. I highly recommend this computer and as usual HP makes another good product.

love this laptop!! I don't know why I didn't buy it sooner! It's light, thin, fast and just the right size for a college student like me. The windows 8 at first is tricky but after a while you get the hang of it. Anyways shipping got here very fast got the package within 5 days and couldn't be happier!

I own three all fast and snappy (if one keeps it clean), all windows 7, not the win8 garbage. Yes the processor is "weak" in Ghtz, but I can play any modern game I can throw at it (low settings) and photoshop with ease. A good all around laptop for average users. Do not expect this to be a power house with a 18 watt processor. I put an SSD in one and I see little difference, snappier, but little difference in speed (due to processor low Ghtz) other than that it only consumes 20 watts of total power consumption now (with SSD) compared to less than 40watts before with a spindle hdd. I recommend this to all my clients who are just average, go online, play lite games, check email, etc., users. 100% satisfaction so far, and my clients. Also, its pretty lightweight. HP did it right and AMD did it better with their baked in graphics card right in the processor. Oh, yeah and its dual core. I love it.

If all you were ever going to do on a computer was type reports for say, school projects, than by all means by this computer. But for ther rest of the world, with Netlix accounts, or avid gamers. This is a sore disappointment. it can't even run simple movies off of the DVD drive without being overloaded and crashing.

This PC is satisfying my needs in every way. It is not a superspeed, metal case computer; but then again that's not what I wanted or was willing to pay for. It is not the fastest computer, but I need it mostly for email and internet browsing for which it does a good job. My only concern is "will it be reliable?". With this price point, I do hope they still built in HP reliability.

PRO...........one of the last 15.6 PC's out there without a numberic keypad. For me that is a huge plus.

CON...........if you want to get to the hard drive you basically have to take the computer apart to get at it. I am used to removing two srcews and sliding them out. I have also determined that this computer will support windows 8 only. You cannot load windows 7. Major flaw and reason to return this extremely limited computer.

HP Pavilion g7-2222us 17.3-Inch Deals

This machine is not a performance powerhouse by any means, but it is a fairly priced good quality machine.

We bought this for our daughter about a month ago directly from HP, and it meets all of her needs. Yes, the screen could be higher resolution, the processor could be faster, and the hard drive speed could be faster, but all those things would add a lot to the price.

The battery life on this computer has been about 5 hours during normal use. We've only had an opportunity to fully test that (going from full to empty) twice, so it may vary depending on what you are doing and your settings.

This machine has Windows 8 installed on it, which is true of almost all new computers now. We definitely prefer most things about Windows 7 to Windows 8, although some things have been improved such as the task manager. (The task manager is that program that opens when you hit Control-Shift-Escape that tells you what programs and processes are running and how you computer is performing. They've added a ton of functionality to that feature of Windows.) Things that we don't like, such as the new start screen, aren't that big of a deal to get around. Overall, Windows 8 isn't a reason to dislike this computer, in my opinion. It takes a little getting used to, but overall it has as much good as it does bad, and we will eventually get used to or find work arounds for the few bad things.

This machine is a good value. It isn't blazing fast, but does web surfing and office applications just fine. If you are looking for a gaming machine, look elsewhere and plan to spend double what this laptop costs. If you are looking for a well made, basic machine, with a 17 inch screen than you won't be disappointed here.

We bought this laptop for my mom who is 82. She's quite computer literate for an old lady! She's mastered Windows 8 already! She just needs it for word processing and internet use (yes, she's on FB!) so this laptop is fine for her. It's a good value for a basic laptop! Not for gaming or anything high-tech, but fine for her!

My desktop computer is 17.5 inches so I thought a laptop that large would have a fare sized keyboard. It don't and they moved the location of important keys in relation to your hand position. They marked the 'F' keys as if they were a secret. The keyboard has reduced me to a hunt and peck typist.
The computer itself is quite satisfactory and has only one draw back. That is that it comes with Windows 8 (no choice and no disk). I have been using Windows for over twenty five years through many revisions. At 76, I can still hold my own on a PC, but this Windows 8 has stopped me in my tracks. I am just getting in programs and info that should have been done by the second day. HP and MS solve any question by putting the computer back to the condition that it arrived in. Windows 8 does not have a restore point that can be set and returned to. The preloaded data keeps trying to sell you something and there are no straight answers on how to backup your hard earned settings for retrieval. It is too big a step to go from a PC to this Pavillion and a crazy operating system like Windows 8.
If I could return it, I would, although there is nothing wrong with the computer other that the keyboard and the fact that I could not get my McAfee downloaded for hours and hours and could have gotten infected as the router setup was almost immediate. The viewing screen can not be taken past 90 degrees and makes you look at it from and angle. I fixed that by turning the laptop 'Targus' cooler backward and angling the keyboard. That didn't bother me as its layout has reduced me to hunt and peck.
I give HP (A good company) three stars and MS a minus three stars for trying to be a Macintosh, which I love but can not afford.

iPearl mCover Hard Shell Case for HP Pavilion / ENVY M6 Deals

I placed my order on Monday and by Thursday afternoon it had arrived at the house. The Aqua color is so pretty and bright just like I wanted. The case was easy to put on took maybe a minute to put on. I wanted this case because I have two boys that think my laptop is their own and I didn't want them to drop it or scratch it. The case has already been put through the 3 year old and 9 year old fighting over the laptop test and the case protected it beautifully. I waited 6 years for a new laptop and buying this hard shell case was a great investment. My brother has one also for his MacBook.

This case is exactly what I was looking for to protect my HP Envy M6. It is so attractive and fits perfectly. Super easy to snap on and will keep the brushed aluminum case on my HP from scratching. Love it. Wish they had it in lime green too. My laptop looks great!

I had been looking for a case for my laptop (HP m6-1125dx) for months, and last week, I finally came across this case online. I immediately knew I had to purchase it. The price wasn't too bad and I fell in love with this "aqua" color while looking through the pictures. The case came only 3 days after I ordered it, which is fairly quick. As for the case, it fits perfectly onto my laptop, was very easy to snap on, and seems pretty durable for the price. I would definitely recommend this case as I am extremely satisfied with it.

I have the 15.6" version of this and its a great laptop for the price. The graphics card is integrated and runs on system RAM, meaning it will outperform many 1-2gb cards with dedicated RAM when the laptop demands more performance. The A10-4600m is a strong AMD CPU, able to compete with the comparablely priced Intel i3 & i5 CPUs. For gaming purposes, it will run almost all newer games at low-medium settings with antialiasing off. Older games 3+ years old all run at high-ultra settings, including games like Fallout 3/NV, Oblivion, Age of Empires 3, Bully, Company of Heroes, Lord of the Rings BFME2, and many others without issues. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a graphics intensive laptop for music and video editing, as well as gaming or just facebooking.

Again disappointed with the garbage that HP has put out. Took computer out of the box and proceeded to use wireless internet and as usual HP did not load the driver for it. Went online to web site and downloaded driver, after trying to install it, restarted my computer and you guessed it...a blank screen with several dots going in circles. I figured it was loading the software at startup and left it for several hours then over night. When I looked at it this morning it was still blank. Would like to send it back to HP...only problem is I am in Saudi Arabia and FedEx would cost me about the same as the purchase price to send it and we all know how cheap HP is...they would bill me when they sent it back...never again will I buy HP.

I was a little bit nervous purchasing this laptop considering the specs listed on amazon's site are different. The top of the page says the computer has Windows NT operating system and the bottom said Windows 8. I took a chance and ordered the computer and I LOVE it.

Its very fast and picture quality is amazing. I love that it has an HDMI output. My only computer only had VGA. The difference in streaming video on the computer and onto the tv is amazing.

Windows 8 is taking a little while to get used to. I was using Windows 7 previously but I'm starting to get the hang of it.

The laptop is light weight, sleek and the keyboard feels good on your hands. Overall I def recommend this product. I think everyone will love it!

I recommend this laptop.

Used exclusively for work to demonstrate videos and photos to customers... play internet radio. It's fast enough with adequate memory and speed for what I use it for. Arrived on time (Prime is worth getting if you use Amazon a lot pay over $80 in shipping a year).

This is my 2nd HP and the other (HP G6) is still doing fine (8GB RAM)... I upgraded to 8GB RAM through Crucial [dot ]com and it runs over 12 hours a day and has been doing so since Fall of 2011. This model (4GB RAM) is capable of 8GB RAM for even better performance. Note that this comes with Windows 8 and I think runs better than my G6 where I upgraded from Win 7.

Get these 2 modules:
Crucial CT3695417
or Kingston or Corsair... all available from Amazon.com

Open the access area... battery compartment or entire bottom of the laptop, locate where the RAM slot is, remove the existing module by pressing down on the retaining clips, remove the module, get the new module and line up the notch in the row of metal pins at the bottom of your module with the key in the SODIMM slot on your motherboard. (If the notch doesn't line up right away, flip your module around and try it the other way. It doesn't matter which side of your module has the black chips or the stickers on it. The important thing is to line up the notch.)

Hold the module at a 45-degree angle to the slot and slide it into place. No more than 1/16" of the gold contacts should be showing when the module is properly seated in the slot.

MODULE:
FEATURE: DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-12800
SPECS FOR RAM: NON-ECC * DDR3-1333 * 1.35V * 512Meg x 64

The laptop is not the most thinnest, but not thick. It is easy to carry. The Windows 8 takes some getting used to, but I believe that you will encounter that with anything you purchase with Windows 8. The battery life is as promissed too. The processor is fast and multi-tasking is great.

The only issue with this laptop is the speakers. If you are going to use it to watch a video or movie, or music, the sound will be better if you plug in your earphones.

My previous laptop was an older Dell. So this laptop is quite an upgrade for me. If you are used to newer laptops already I'm not sure if you will love it as much as I do. Like all other reviews Windows 8 is a unique experience that takes some getting use to but with a little exploring you will. I do like how you can go to the OG desktop view similar to Windows 7. Setup is super easy pretty much turn it on and you are ready to rock and roll. I have always preferred Google search engine but I am already in love with the format of MSN homepage and Bing search. The only problem I've experienced is the mouse arrow freezes on me from time to time. I just wait a few beats and then it moves again but I wonder why this happens? Overall I'm very happy and would recommend this to anyone!

The faults with my two-month old unit didn't manifest fully until after the 30 day warranty with Amazon had expired. When I sought help from HP, the case manager came out right and said it was HP's goal to make money, not accommodate customers. The wireless router was bad, the unit would freeze inexplicably, it jumped from the page I was working on to the start tiles without warning, the DVD burner didn't work. I could go on and on. Oh yes, they will send it out for repairs, and by Fed Ex. I told her Fed Ex didn't serve my area and she said I could drive the 62 miles to the nearest pickup point if I wanted the unit repaired. No loaner, no replacement. Best part was when I asked the case worker for her supervisor, and she said she didn't have one. Oh, and they won't reinstall the Office I paid for. Hey, when you've got a bad unit, you've got a bad unit. Admit it, replace it and go forward. I can't speak to the value or reliability of most HP laptops, but I will say that you're on your own if you get a bad one. HP service stinks - just don't buy one. Next time I'm getting another brand.

Got this notebook for a month about. In general it is very cool, fast, beatiful and impressive, BUT yesterday WEB-camera stopped working. I had to read a lot of forums about resolving this issue. Half people says that it's software bug but another one says that it is hardware ill. I tried only one option which look more preferable: Turn off PC - un-plug battery - push power button for 15 seconds - put battery back and turn on PC -> issue resolved. I very hope that it will not happen again - because I feel myself very unpleased when you spend >1200$ and WEBcamera become unavailable.
Hope this will help somebody.

I wish this had a non-matte/anti-glare screen like they used to have. And that the touchpad was centered to the machine and not the 10key layout.

Those two things aside this was a sweet little machine and a great addition to my equipment. I'm a videographer so I often have programs for movie making, conversion and photo editing open and working at the same time. iTunes or Netflix is usually running too, so its a lot! but the processor is fast and it hasnt crashed or faltered once. Very happy so far.

This is not the first time I have had this issue with HP laptops in the last year. Returned laptop to Amazon. Very disappointed.

I receive this laptop has a present. Its worked fine so far. No problems at all. It plays games like Minecraft, and even the original Halo combat evolved pretty well. If you are using it right, the battery could last for four hours, which is nice. Like I said in the title, it is a all around nice laptop.

HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15-b140us 15.6-Inch Deals

By Louie the Italian Jew "Lou da Joo" (New York, NY) -
This review is from: HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15-b140us 15.6-Inch Laptop (Personal Computers)
I was really expecting a budget no frills computer for the price I paid (four hundred). I've seen the price go up, and to me is just too much at that price, and that's the reason there aren't any reviews. This computer works super fast, and is super responsive with the latest operating system. It looks like a five hundred to six hundred dollar laptop, but at six bills you can pick a laptop up which is either a convertible, has a touch screen, has the upgraded Beats soundcard, and the best feature of all, a backlit keypad.
This basic no frills laptop doesn't have any of that, and it has last years i3 CPU (graphics are more suitable for surfing the web). I've heard people complain about the keypads on this model, and that was my biggest concern. I was happy to find that the keypads weren't bad, and the letter spacing is fine.
I've also read a lot about people getting accustomed to Windows 8. Windows 8 is totally different from any other operating system. Win95,98,2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7 are all the same. Windows 8 is completely different, and believe me you'll need to buy Windows 8 For Dummies. I did.
If the price is right (four hundred is what I paid), I'd recommend purchasing this, but if the price is comparable to a CPU with an i5, or an Ultrabook, I'd recommend going with the laptop with more features. This laptops best feature is its slimness, portability and its looks. Happy shopping!

Update 4/19/2013: From reading articles online, I'd conclude that it would be wise to hold off on purchasing a laptop for the next 6 months, if possible. There will be a dramatic price drop on touch laptops in the next 2 quarters, and the touch market laptops will be designed with the Bay Trail Atom chip . Windows 8 was designed for touch. The laptop I am reviewing just got caught between the transition phase.

HP does it finally. it is a good laptop with a great price. for 15.6 inches i3 core. it is a good bargain laptop in sub $500 range. Windows 8 is a pain to use. but it is just the matter of getting used to it. No big deal. We learn thing all the time anyway. Why not 1 more and beside, as long as click on Desktop, everything look the same again. But I hoped that I would able to shutdown and restart as before instead now Alt-F4.....
that's weird.
anyway, HP itself is good, light weight, very thin for me. With a HDMI output that's a little surprise for me. I guess I need to buy a DVI and HDMI cable for my monitor. So far, it is a good laptop and I am a mobile app developer and it has a good screen for me to do my work.

I got this as a replacement laptop. Warning: It comes with Windows 8, which is a learning curve. It also doesn't have a DVD/CD player. So far, I haven't needed them. I like the light weigh and thinness of the laptop. I also like the closed keyboard (meaning although the keys are spaced as they should be the space is covered so it's less likely to get dust and food particles down underneath the keyboard.

The laptop is fast enough for my needs and I'm pleased with my purchase and the low price (Amazon had an "add to your cart to see the price" sale that put it at a lower price than the next one down in this line, which was nice.

Great laptop, only issue is that finding tech support for it is difficult. I love the screen, sound, operating system...just about everything...however, my Wi-Fi is really weak and I can't find any tech support to help me out. The laptop has all these great scans they can run to tell me my Wi-Fi is messed up, but no solutions. Frustrating.

I bought this computer and I think it is great. Nice Chiclet keyboard, decent (5 hours) battery life, backlit keyboard, Windows 8 (which I like) but the speaker isn't great. For Beats audio to be attached to the speaker quality you would never know it if it were not for the logo stamped on the speaker. It does get kinda hot underneath even with the HP CoolSense turned on but not nearly as hot as my old computer. The touchscreen is more useful than I thought it would be with Windows 8 [I think Windows 8 was meant for touchscreen computers). The touchscreen isn't really meant to be used all the time (although it can be), just occasionally when you want to access something immediately. It does feel heavy, actually it feels heavier than 5 pounds if you ask me, but it isn't. It does make up for its flaws in speed though. Everything takes like a couple seconds to load. Touchpad is a little stiff, speaker quality doesn't meet expectations, it gets quite warm underneath, and there is a button or two that always remains lit if the computer is on but other than that for under $600 you can't beat it.

This laptop is everything I could have asked for. Even though windows 8 has a learning curve, it is very fun to learn with a touchscreen, and once you get the hang of it, will be a very nice OS.The touchscreen is great, although it might need some calibration. Other than that, I am very pleased with this product, and would recommend it to anyone.

Also, with all HP laptops, it does not take a long time for the laptop to become overheated, so be sure to place it on a flat area.

This laptop packs a lot of features into an incredible price. For your everyday email, browsing, spreadsheets, etc. this machine with its quad-core processor handles everything with ease. I was most impressed as I tried out some more entertaining apps (games) as well as streaming videos - nice and smooth and the system doesn't get hot or every feel like its working hard. For its features, I love the full size keyboard as well as number pad, and there is plenty of memory and hard drive size for what I need.

One of the coolest new features, which took me some time to get used to, is the ability to use the touch screen. Once I got used to Windows8 and the touch interface, I've found that if I use anyone else's notebook I wind up touching their screen and am surprised when nothing happens. Its great for quickly browsing through photos, scrolling through web pages and getting around the new Windows8 interface.

My only criticism would be that it needs a higher definition screen (which of course would make it more expensive) - so its a qualified criticism.

If you are ready to ditch your old notebook and jump into the world of touch with a full featured notebook at price that can't be beat, this is the machine for you.

Don't let the price fool you, this laptop has lots of power and compared to my old Intel unit, is at least 3x's as powerful when it comes to graphics. I'm a digital animator, I budget on excel, and do just about anything you can imagine on my computer, so if this baby can handle everything I throw at it, it'll handle everything you can throw at it too.

After doing some research on laptops, I came across this specific model and was impressed with the specifications. I had read many people dislike Windows 8, so I was a bit skeptical. However, since I bought it, I can't seem to stop bragging about it! The laptop is thin, sleek, and fast! The screen size is perfect and clear. I LOVE the touchscreen! It makes everything so much easier and faster! I use on a daily basis to access my email, view documents, etc.. and it works marvelous! Love it!

This computer is wonderful!

I was looking for an upgrade from my old laptop I had bought back in about 2007. It came with Windows 8, which I wasn't sure about. I feel that Windows 8 is very smooth so far.

Overall, this laptop has exceeded my expectations; the 6GB memory is exceptional, the i3 is fast enough for graphic work and programs were easy to install, media player runs beautifully, 750GB HD gives room to maneuver, and the screen is awesome! I am more than pleased with this purchase.

Same price but better CPU. Don't know why people still buy 2240us. Got one of this from staples. They want to sell 2240us so this one was even not displayed. I reserved online and finally got one. Good substitute to my Desktop. Collected to TV for 1080p movie. Collected to PS3 controller for Games. This computer does everything. So far so good

Hi, just bought this computer , very nice , and fast, windows 8 is good , just need to download the cheat app for window 8 , just type it in the start screen.
now for people having problems with the dvd disc door opening, there is a very simple answer. You have to google an app called POWER 2 GO 8 , you can copy files
with this program , you have to restart for the program to work. You cannot miss the big icon on your desktop, at the bottom left left corner of the icon you will see an arrow,
click on the arrow and this opens a window for that program, you drag the files you want to copy to a disc by dragging them into this window, then hit the burn button , and use a r/ or rw disc. the best part is there is a triangular button in the upper tool bar of this window, click on this button and the computer disc
door will open with great ease, every time . It send a electrical signal and it works great. I really like this computer , still very new , so far so good.
and window 8 is good , just make sure you update windows 8 first, create a restore point, and make a back up disc , and install anti virus , before surfing the web. Hope all this helps someone.
Using this POWER 2 GO 8 software, you never have to try and open the disc door manually again.

HP - ENVY Touch-Screen Ultrabook 14 Deals

By Michael (WALNUT, CA, United States) -
Pros:

-14 inch monitor and solid keyboard means you can actually do real work on this machine, compared to a tablet or netbook;
-Touchscreen make Windows 8 much easier to use;
-Backlit keyboard finally makes it to budget laptops;
-USB 3.0 is mind blowingly fast at transferring files;
-Speakers are loud enough for decent movie watching;

Cons:
-Boring design. Lid is completely black. The rest is a clone of the Macbook Pro;
-Same blocky power adapter from 1997;
-Windows 8 and reversed touchpad scrolling requires a learning curve;
-Heavier than it looks;

I bought this online on cyber Monday. I got it last Friday. Really cool lap top but not impressed with W8
I am happy with the hardware. Its slim, battery life is over 6 hours, with average use. I am sure if you were playing videos or games, it may not be as much, but I figured you may be able to watch a movie start to end without battery running out. It's light, screen gets really smudgy with finger prints.
so GREAT LAPTOP for the price point that I bought it for.
It has 24 Gig SSD drive for quick boot times, which I don't think is in the spec.
It has a back lit key board. The mouse pad it one piece but and right and left click are built in to the pad, so you don't see separate buttons. The right scroll feature is turned off, so you have to go to the mouse settings under control panel to turn it on. I like the two finger scroll and two finger click to get right click menu.
I have noticed some issues with few apps crashing, and even during the initial set up W8 encountered an error and ran me through the initial set up the second time only to duplicate the user account on the computer.
Screen is really nice and crisp. Webcam is average.
Not a lot of fan noise, but then again there aren't a lot of vents on this either. I did NOT notice it running hot or anything. Also the battery is built in, so you can't just pop it out.

Fantastic Windows 8 Touch Ultrabook by HP. Cyber-Monday was the perfect opportunity for this purchase. Our family purchased two of these devices. We would have purchased 3 but there was a limit. This laptop has all the performance and requirements you will need to do majority of computing tasks. Love the superfast 15 seconds Windows 8 boot up time...much thanks to the 32G hybrid mSSD cache. Benefit with a hybrid mSSD gives you more capacity with a traditional 500GB HD plus the ability to quickly start up your computer. This is the way to go for performance / capacity at a lower price. The Envy Touch Ultrabook does have some heft to it but not a deal breaker at all since the thin form factor design keeps it looking fresh and sleek. Build quality is well constructed. Backlit keyboard is a nice feature but the keys themselves could use some improvement. However, I did not have any trouble typing lengthy emails. Touch screen response is excellent and does not exhibit any lag or latency. Intel Core i3 performs well for web surfing, email, and multiple app operations. If you can get your hands on one of these HP Envy Ultrabooks I'd highly recommend getting one to start your Windows 8 touch experience.

I found this laptop at a TigerDirect retail store for $650, same exact specs. Boots up Windows fast, and also comes with Windows 8 OS discs (which i'm not using anytime soon!). Keys are soft-touch, but PF keys are a little more to the left than I am used to.I'm sure i'll get used to this.

The touchpad is a bit iffy though. sometimes moving the pointer is not as responsive as my old laptop, and most of the time to 'click' on something (especially to close out a screen), i have to use the left touchscreen button. Moving to the 'red X' and thumping the touchpad, even twice, will often not 'click' the X. however, i've gotten used to this quickly.

I am an old mainframer and not a laptop guru, especially when it comes to software installation, networking, etc. At my office, we have 'people' for that. But I've had no trouble setting up my wireless network, installing the security software, and other tasks which permit me to log into my workplace network.

I have an 11 yr old with special needs. He uses his elbows and as such can't use a touchscreen electronic. He used to have a WinXP desktop that WinXP support ends next year and needs a new OS. I had a 10 yr. old HP with Windows XP. It is just wonderful to have Windows 7. The machine is a powerhouse for me. I am not that knowledgeable about computers and was afraid I would have problems setting it up. It was a breeze. It is so quick. It WOWS me. The touch pad is so so. I bought a wireless mouse and I am very happy now. I highly recommend this product. I am so happy I made this purchase.

I like the raised keys on the keyboard. I like how quiet this laptop is. The sound and video are very good. Compared to other laptops I've had it's amazingly quiet.. It's nice and light. My last laptop, an Acer, would get burning hot. Not this one. Thanks to some new technology developed by HP it stays cool, which is a very nice feature. It's fast enough. I tried a Toshiba laptop before I got this one but sent it back because the sound and picture were both terrible, and because I HATED the Windows 8 operating system. I feel very lucky to have found this excellent computer with Windows 7, which I much prefer. I would recommend this laptop.

It's a computer laptop. It works as expected. I got this one because I didn't want windows 8, but wanted a decent amount of memory. This gave me the option of sticking with 7 and also gave me a disk I could use to upgrade to windows 8 if I ever feel adventuresome. I like the key board. The keys are raised. There are some features I haven't tried yet. It is light weight. That is a plus. Much faster than my other laptops. The CD/DVD slot is not well designed, is flimsy and is hard to open. Update: It has a strange deal with the mouse. There is a small pin light (not a button) in the left portion of the mouse closest to the monitor. If you touch it by accident the light will come on and your mouse will freeze. The only thing that will make the mouse unfreeze is to tap that light several times. Apparently my other HP laptop is like this as well and I never have been unfortunate enough to accidently press it. Other than several hours of panic, it didn't harm anything. But scared me to have my computer essentially frozen and unable to access my documents.

I have just received my HP ProBook 4540s few hours ago and I have spent some time playing around with it. So, this is only my first impression. I love everything about this laptop so far! I have just returned my $950 sony laptop and got this $600 HP laptop, and I am so happy to do so. This is a really good laptop for students.

I will write more about this laptop in few months, the time for me to go deeper in its features and usage.

By the way, thank you very much to all people who write reviews about products on amazon.com and online sites. 5 stars for the seller TigerDirect, 5 stars for Amazon.com (I sell and buy on Amazon, and I love the way they handle this business), and more than 5 stars for this wonderful laptop. This is not my first laptop. In fact, in the last 4 years, I have own laptops from Dell, Asus, Apple MacBook (which I returned), Samsung, Sony (which I have just returned today). I have also owned an all in one pc from Asus and another from Sony. However, this is my first time to write a review about a pc, this is my first time to like my pc to the point to sit down and share my first impression...

I love it. It is very fast and getting used to using the windows 8 (I had vista before so it is a little transition). It is a notebook style though it says laptop because it has no cd,dvd, or bluray drive (which for the price is fine you can always look online and get an external for a good price). VERY LIGHT! Love how light and easy to carry. It is thin and the screen size it perfect not too big but not too small. I would highly recommend it. I have had for 2 months so far so awesome will update later.

 By Frank A. Wheeler "adroit pond man" (Dallas, GA)

This review is from: HP Pavilion g7-2222us 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black) (Personal Computers)

A decent PC for the price, but there are several negat1ves to be aware of:

network port is NOT gigabit, it is only 10/100. So if you will be copying large files to this PC over a wired gigabit network (as most people do these days), then the transfer rate will be SLOW.

The keyboard lacks the standard inverted-T layout for the arrow keys. Most people that use the arrow keys for navigating spreadsheets, gaming, etc would consider the inverted-T arrangement very important.

Users Manual on the HP site is one-size fits all, it is NOT specific to this model of PC. Much of what is in the manual does not pertain to this PC.

Downloadable drivers on the HP site are for 64-bit Windows 8 only. So if you want to install Windows 7 on this PC, you could have a problem.

How long does the battery last? The answer is anyone's guess, because HP does not mention this anywhere. Also, what is the replacement lithium battery pack for this PC? Who knows, because the HP website does not have this information either.

As usual, Amazon comes through with flying colors. I ordered this a week before Christmas, was expecting delivery on Monday, the 24th, received it on Friday, the 21st. Daughter was ecstatic about early delivery and LOVES it!!!! Charged it up and she's been on it non-stop for the last three days. Took her a bit to get the hang of Windows 8, but says it works 1000 times better then the Windows Vista that was on her last laptop. Fast Processing and outstanding color, picture nice and big for watching movies. More than enough storage space for all her music files. Very happy with purchase.

Pro: Good Battery Life.
Con: Hangs and or freezes frequently. Due to this can't play any half decent games. Don't touch the touch pad. It has a mind of it's own. The touch pad doesn't know whether it's supposed to act like a touch pad on a laptop, or a touch screen on a smart phone, therefore it randomly selects what it wants to do. Do not rest your palms on the laptop. You will end up in strange and unknown places within the computer. For a non-smart phone user, Windows 8 is the most unfriendly program I have ever used. Just trying to shut down the computer is an ordeal. Have to find just the right spot in the lower right corner. Then catch the "settings" button before it disappears. Now catch the Power button. Now shut off. What a pain. What ever happened to the start/shut down icon? Everything else most people without Iphones want to do is hidden and you have to figure out how to find it. All in all I'd say this computer and windows 8 were designed to drive people to the nut house. I would never recommend this computer to anyone. Not even those people I dislike!

I haven't mad up my mind if I like the Windows 8 program yet. Windows 7 was the best since XP. When I use it more I might begin to like it better. We have other computers with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. This computer replaced the one which had Vista which I didn't like. I would like this computer better if it had a numeric keyboard on the right side. Other brand laptops with a 15.5" screen do have the numeric keyboard on the right. The more I use the windows 8 on this computer the better I like it.

I purchased 2 of these covers for our new HP Laptop Envy computers, blue for my husband and green for me. They were easy to put on and cover the computers well. The top cover will come off if the corner catches on something (a bag, etc) but easily snaps back on. For the money, they seem to work well.

I am not a fan of the new windows 8. I do not like the tiles, I find them like looking at a puzzle. This may be good for touch and for children, but it simply annoys me. I want a start menu listed, one that is organized. Otherwise, the machine works well and I am happy with it.

If all you were ever going to do on a computer was type reports for say, school projects, than by all means by this computer. But for ther rest of the world, with Netlix accounts, or avid gamers. This is a sore disappointment. it can't even run simple movies off of the DVD drive without being overloaded and crashing.

I love it.

I think everyone will love it!

very light, very fast, boots instantly,and has a nice keyboard.
but....
came with windows 8, biggest mistake of my life. win 7 was the easiest o/s to work with, win 8 is designed by son dumbs--t who doesn't understand how hard it is to change habits learned on older machines. you gotta hunt to find what you need, caution, it may not be in the new o/s. touch the wrong spot on the touch pad, it takes you hither and yon. the capping pain in the a-- is turning off the computer, they want you to hibernate instead, gotta go thru a buncha steps and screens to power down!!
last minor complaint, shell is gloss black, finger print city.

wonder if they offer a downgrade to win 7?

Does all I needed it to do. It seems to be well made too. Comes with Windows 8 even though the name is misleading you to think it comes with Windows 2000.
